At least one Public Relations industry analyst says that PR is dead.
While I believe that’s a tad extreme, public relations as we know it is changing — dramatically changing. It would serve PR professionals well to morph into All-in-Wonders (pr, communications, marketing, advertising, social media experts, Web developers, et. al.).
While the Web is largely to blame for the changing face of public relations, it’s also a brilliant resource for today’s professional. There’s no end to the educational opportunities and information available via the Web. Blogs, Newsetters, RSS, PR tweets & more.
Survival will be achieved by those PR practitioners who are willing to learn, push themselves beyond their comfort zones, adapt to the changing landscape, and jump on. The stodgy, though, will go the way of the newspaper — seen as a bad investment by the wise.
